Sustainable interior design is not a style but a way of choosing materials, services and furniture. Done well, as well as reducing environmental impact, it improves air quality and comfort at home.
Lime-based paint finishes, made with 100% mineral compounds, are breathable, help prevent mould and condensation and avoid volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Their texture also catches the light very differently from a plastic paint. At ETNA STUDIO we work with the manufacturers Detale and Formma, to whom the examples in the images belong.
Certified wood, wool, linen and organic cotton regulate humidity and improve comfort. Choosing locally made products also reduces the transport footprint.
A layout that makes the most of daylight reduces the need for artificial light. Efficient appliances, LED lighting, low-flow taps and good insulation complete the picture.
Reusing existing pieces and choosing quality furniture that will not need replacing in a few years is probably the most sustainable decision of all.
