A penthouse offers what few flats can: light, sky and often a terrace that can be used for much of the year. Designing its interior means making the most of those advantages and solving its weak points, such as direct summer sun or roof insulation.
In a penthouse, the terrace is not an add-on: it is another room. Continuing the flooring, aligning the glazing and planning the outdoor lighting together with the indoor lighting make both spaces read as one.

Abundant light has to be managed. Awnings, motorised blinds or a bioclimatic pergola, integrated into a home automation system, let you adjust light and temperature throughout the day.
Open layouts make the most of views and daylight: kitchen, dining and living in one space, with the private areas grouped together. Choose finishes that age well under strong sun — treated timber, stone, porcelain — and a restrained palette that does not compete with the outside.
The roof is the most exposed part of the building. Before thinking about finishes, check insulation and waterproofing, and plan efficient heating and cooling.
