TORRE VILANA — WHEN THE KITCHEN IS NO LONGER A SEPARATE SPACE

Torre Vilana is one of Barcelona’s most exclusive residential developments, nestled on the slopes of Tibidabo with views over the city. The commission came with a clear premise: to transform the kitchen and dining-living room area of a single-family home into a continuous space, where cooking and sharing a meal would be part of the same experience, not two rooms that merely coexist, but a single, breathing environment.

The project

The kitchen is from Armony Cucine’s RIGA collection: wood cabinet fronts with a pronounced vertical grain and a warm finish that complements the overall color scheme of the space. The island takes center stage in the layout: a Calacatta porcelain countertop with golden veins, a built-in induction cooktop with no visible frames, and an undermount sink with a matte black faucet. A glass shelving unit, also from the Armony line, organizes the glassware without sacrificing decorative appeal. The range hood is concealed in the ceiling: a design choice, not an accessory.

All the furniture in the space was designed by ETNA STUDIO. The round Giano table by Cattelan Italia anchors the dining area: a wooden top with a black metal base, surrounded by Nemo chairs from Westwing in anthracite gray upholstery with dark wood legs. Above the ensemble, the Tura lamp by Aromas del Campo, a linear black structure with wood and brass details, defines the room’s volume without closing it off.

The living room

The living area is designed with a different yet cohesive approach: more subdued tones and more tactile materials. The travertine cladding on the main wall frames the dark wood TV unit and the custom-designed geometric bookshelf. The modular sofa from Sofá Actual, in textured cream, organizes the space around an oval black coffee table. The element that gives the entire room its character is the Planika bioethanol fireplace: integrated at floor level, at the base of the stone cladding, it transforms the wall into something more than just a wall.

A single design philosophy for the entire space

What unites the kitchen, dining room, and living room is not style, it’s intention. High-quality materials without ostentation, a warm and understated color palette, and furniture that exudes a designer’s vision without needing a visible signature. The Torre Vilana project is a good example of what happens when interior design and furniture selection are part of the same process from the very beginning.
