Piso modernista
Updating a Modernista flat in the Eixample is one of the most rewarding briefs in interior design: introducing new ways of living, such as an open kitchen, and renewing the services while respecting the character of the home.
This flat in a Modernista building on Carrer Aribau was designed for a family with two daughters, and had to accommodate some pieces of furniture from the owners’ previous home.
All water, electricity and gas services were renewed. Original features were kept and restored, including the cast-iron radiators and some of the plaster ceiling roses and mouldings. Others were replaced with contemporary pieces by Noel & Marquet and Orac Decor, together with lacquered skirting boards.
Some clearly contemporary elements were introduced, such as handles and doors by the Italian maker Albed and fully recessed LED lighting. All walls, ceilings, mouldings and skirtings were skimmed and repainted, and the original doors that were kept were re-lacquered.
